For my second co-op experience, I chose to return to Midmark where I was lucky enough to continue my work with a great team, mentor, and manager.
This semester I was able to focus on sotware projects ranging from
app development, UI/UX programming, low level data transmission, optimizing large scale processes and more!
The majority of my efforts were directed towards app development using C++, QML, and interfacing with the linux OS.
Working in a small three person team, I was able to play an important role in the entire development life cycle
where I could consistently produce high level solutions.
At one point during development, the team noticed that the speed of the app was noticeably low,
meaning a clunky user experience and potential push back from new users.
Seeing this, I was able to spend a day diving into the issue at a hardware level using low level tools.
Using what I saw at a low level, I was able to implement new systems for page loading, image processing, and function declaration
leading to faster load speeds that were up to 210% more efficient.
This experience also allowed me to work on my teaching and leadership abilities when showing others how to implement
the new system. I am truly greatful for the chance to have this experience and learn while having a real impact on the projects within the company.
I came out of my experience at midmark with even more tech experience than before but I also left having grown more confident in all the soft skills
required to be an effective engineer.
Thank you Jim, Vance, and the team for a great semester and experience!
